Cookie Policy

Cookies are small text files that are sent by the website to the user's computer (usually the browser), where they are stored and then sent back to the website when the same user visits the website again.

A cookie cannot retrieve other data from the user's hard drive, transmit computer viruses, or collect email addresses. Each cookie is unique to the user's web browser. Some cookie functions may be outsourced to other technologies.

In this document, the term 'cookies' refers both to cookies in the strict sense of the word and to all similar technologies. Cookies can be used to record preference information, such as pages visited, files downloaded from the site, or other similar actions performed while browsing the site.

FIRST- OR THIRD-PARTY COOKIES

Cookies can be first-party or third-party cookies:

  • "First Party" means cookies developed by the site owner themselves.
  • "Third party" means cookies developed by third parties other than the website owner.

NATURE OF COOKIES

Depending on the nature of cookies, there are different types:

Technical cookies

Technical cookies are cookies used solely for the purpose of "carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide that service" (see Article 122(1) of the Code). They are not used for other purposes and are normally installed directly by the website owner or operator.

They can be divided into:

  • Navigation or session cookies ensure normal navigation and use of the website (for example, allowing a purchase to be made or logging in to access secure areas); they are necessary for the proper functioning of the site.
  • Analytical cookies, equivalent to technical cookies, are used directly by the website operator to collect aggregated information about the number of users and how they visit the website, in order to improve website performance;
  • Functional cookies enable the user to navigate based on a set of selected criteria (for example, selected products, language, etc.) to improve the service provided. No prior consent from the user is required for the placement of such cookies.

Profiling cookies

Profiling cookies are intended to create user profiles and are used to display advertisements that match the preferences expressed by the user while browsing the internet.

For the use of profiling cookies, the consent of the data subject is required.

According to Decision No. 229 of 8 May 2014, the user must be able to give or refuse consent to the placement of profiling cookies, if present.

In the case of third-party cookies, the website has no direct control over individual cookies and cannot manage them (the website cannot directly install or delete them). However, the user can manage these cookies through the browser settings (follow the instructions below) or through the websites listed in the 'Cookie management' section.

Therefore, the user is asked to consult the relevant cookie policy on third-party websites.

The most recent list of cookies used on the platform can always be accessed through the following procedure:

1. Click on the lock icon next to the URL;

2. Select the 'Cookies' button;

3. View the different categories and subcategories of cookies in use;

4. Select 'block' or 'delete' for any unwanted cookie.

COOKIE DURATION

Cookies have a lifespan determined by the expiration date (or a specific action, such as closing the browser) set at the moment of installation.
Cookies can be:

  • Temporary or session cookies: these are used to store temporary information, allow actions performed during a specific session to be linked, and are deleted from your computer when you close your browser;
  • Persistent cookies: these are used to store information, such as username and password, so that the user does not have to re-enter them each time they visit a particular website. These cookies remain stored on the computer even after the browser is closed.

So-called session cookies are not stored once the connection to this website is terminated. The computer systems used for this website use temporary and persistent cookies.

COOKIE MANAGEMENT

Users can disable cookies on websites by downloading special software such as Ghostery (https://www.ghostery.com) for their browser and disabling the use of individual cookies. Or they can activate the "anonymous browsing mode" – this is a feature that allows you to browse without leaving a trace of your browsing data in your browser. This feature only ensures that your browsing data is not stored in the browser.
Alternatively, users can disable/delete cookies via their browser's control panel.

ACCEPTANCE AND WAIVER OF COOKIES

By continuing to browse this site, closing the information banner, clicking anywhere on the page, or scrolling down to view more content, you agree to the cookie policy and cookies are placed and collected.

If you do not accept cookies by leaving the browser window, the cookies already stored locally in your browser will remain registered there, but will no longer be read or used by us until you later accept the policy. Users always have the option to delete such cookies at any time using the aforementioned methods.
